Date: Thursday, November 5
Time: 5-8pm
Join us for an intimate evening of working with clay to create a personal altar — a space for honoring ancestors, remembering loved ones who have passed, and holding what is sacred to us.
Using simple handbuilding techniques, we'll create sculptural ceramic altars to hang on a wall or rest on a surface, incorporating small shelves, niches, and spaces for offerings or meaningful objects. Participants are welcome to follow a guided form or explore their own design.
You're invited to bring a small object, photograph, or keepsake that holds meaning for you, something you might eventually place on your altar. We'll open our time together with a moment of reflection, allowing these objects and the stories they hold to inspire what we create.
Herbal tea will be provided. All levels welcome. Clay, tools, instruction, glazing, and firing are included. Finished pieces will be available for pickup 4-5 weeks after the workshop.
Inspired by the altar-making gatherings at Clay Clubhouse in Oakland, with gratitude to Jo and their team for sharing this beautiful tradition!

What to Expect:
This private, candlelit hands-on workshop is perfect for a group looking to connect, celebrate, and create something beautiful together.
The lights will be low and the table will be set with many candles. We’ll begin with an introduction and a demonstration of foundational hand-building techniques like pinching, coiling, and slab-building before everyone dives into a few hours of playful, creative making. Whether you choose to craft a cup, bowl, vase or plate, this time is yours to enjoy and express.
This experience is fully customized to your group, and we’re happy to shape the vibe to match your vision. We’ll glaze and fire your favorite pieces after the event and have them ready for pickup or shipping within 3-5 weeks.
